What happened
Historic floods have struck Thailand. Bangkok suffered the same fate. In Kanchanaburi, the River Kwai overflowed and submerged the Baan Mama Elephant Sanctuary.
The elephants, Tao, Punsap and the others, were brought to safety. But the beds, the kitchen, the mattresses, the air conditioners… everything is gone. The water took it all.
Without reopening there are no visitors, and therefore no income. Yet these stays are the only resource that keeps the whole ecosystem alive, the elephants, their care, the sanctuary. We must rebuild so all of this can continue.
Our only source of income
Baan Mama receives no subsidies. Donations and visitor stays are our sole revenue: without them, the elephants are neither fed nor cared for, and the sanctuary simply cannot survive.
