Baan Mama · Kanchanaburi

From suffering to serenity

Tao, an elephant marked by years of mistreatment, arrived injured and distrustful. Thanks to patient and respectful care, she found confidence, freedom and joy of life again.

From suffering to

Tao, from a closed eye to an open heart

Tao was introduced to us at a difficult period of her life. She was living in a camp that did not offer good conditions for elephants. Her owner placed her with us to avoid visits from buyers. He wanted to sell her for 600,000 baht. A vet had announced she only had about a dozen years left to live.

On arrival, Tao was thin, exhausted, irritable and blind in one eye. She was afraid of water and approached timidly before turning back. But here, everything was different.

Thanks to Win, her extraordinary mahout, Tao discovered a relationship built on patience and gentleness. Day by day, Win gave her back her confidence. Little by little, she regained her strength.

Two months after witnessing her transformation, her owner decided not to sell her anymore. Tao stayed at Baan Mama. She has now been living here for seven years.

Today, it is a joy to see her transformed: more weight, the pleasure of bathing and above all a serenity that can be read in her gestures. Tao is simply living.
